Apple XServe Replacement Coming Soon?
You may have heard that Apple has discontinued its enterprise-class XServe line, citing poor sales. But Apple might be preparing to endorse a third-party solution.

Active Storage, a company run by former Apple executive Alex Grossman, might be groomed to be the company that sells a replacement server to the XServe (they call it a solution and not a replacement).
Apple has been known to recommend third-party products as complements to its own server- and professional-oriented solutions. But with the discontinuation of the XServe, those looking to run rack-mounted servers might want something better than using Mac Minis or Mac Pros as an alterantive.
The mystery server is still that–a mystery. The countdown on Active Storage’s website shows what seems to be a 1U rackmount server draped in black. The countdown actually ends right after Apple formally discontinues the XServe.
In less than a day, we’ll finally get to learn what it’s all about, and whether Apple will be endorsing it as a replacement for the XServe.
