Activision Is Shutting Down Luxoflux, Guitar Hero Dev Neversoft Also Affected

Activision Cuts Staff At Neversoft, Completely Axes Luxoflux

Activision are completely shutting down Luxoflux, the developer behind Transformers, and cutting staff at Neversoft, reportedly leaving around 100 people unemployed, depending on the number that can be transferred to Treyarch. Man, I knew music games had it bad so it was only a matter of time before more studios dealing in such wares were affected, especially ones consistently putting out mediocre products, but Transformers sold well and got plenty of attention, right? Oh, wait, that was Transformers: War for Cybertron, not Revenge of the Fallen.

“Activision Publishing continually evaluates its resources to ensure that they are properly matched against its product slate and strategic goals. In 2010, the company’s sku count will be smaller than in 2009 driven in part, by a decrease in the number of music-based games we will be releasing,” is the statement Activision released to explain their position. Guess Activision is feeling the burn on those mounting lawyer fees.

Well, they made six Guitar Hero games, including the last two home console releases, GH5 and 6 according to their Wikipedia page so I don’t know what you mean. Also, the story was broken by Kotaku and confirmed by Activision with the statement I quoted in the article, you can read the whole thing by clicking on the via link.
