Nexus S Coming To AT&T?
Is the Nexus S coming to AT&T? That is on everybody’s mind, as folks have spotted a new Samsung phone going through Bluetooth SIG approval with a very familiar model name. The phone is dubbed GT-i9020A, while the already released Nexus S (with T-Mobile bands) is dubbed GT-i9020T. Hence speculation that an AT&T compatible version of the Nexus S is coming to AT&T.

You may remember back to this time last year, Google released a version of the Nexus One compatible with T-Mobile, and then two months later, they released a version compatible with AT&T’s network. It’s possible that the search giant is planning to do something similar this time around, as it’s been about two months since the T-Mobile-compatible version of the Nexus S was released.
However, it’s also possible that this phone is headed to Canada, as well. Mobilicity, Bell, Rogers and TELUS are all supposed to get the Nexus S soon, and they all use the same 3G bands as AT&T. But that doesn’t explain the “T” postfix at the end of the model name – unless it stands for TELUS. Kind of a stretch if you ask me, considering that Telus isn’t the biggest carrier or anything.
With their loss of iPhone exclusivity, AT&T seems to be taking Android more seriously. They’ve got the HTC Inspire 4G and Motorola Atrix 4G coming, both of which are great phones. So, it isn’t clear if they’ll off the Nexus S in their lineup, or if Google will just sell the phone to work with AT&T 3G bands – like they did with the Nexus One.

That is horrible news!!! Now I’ll be torn over going with the pure Google device that is more likely to receive software updates, or all the coolness of the Motorola Atrix. Why didn’t they do this when I was contemplating the iPhone 4, I would have easily went with the Nexus S? ARRRGGHHHH!!!
*Jokingly of course, it’s great news… it just makes my decision harder since I’m hell bent on dumping my iPhone 4 for the Atrix.
FYI, Mobilicity uses AWS, same as T-Mobile, but different from the rest.
