Verizon Intro’s VZ Navigator VX, Means 3D Navigation For Select Android Smartphones [Verizon VZ Navigator VX 3D Navigation Now Available For The Droid X, Droid Incredible & Samsung Fascinate]
Verizon has announced their latest addition in terms of navigation, VZ Navigator VX which comes in and joins the existing VZ Navigator and VZ Navigator Global. The VZ Navigator VX app is noted as being “an evolution of ordinary direction services” which in short means that it now has 3D capabilities amongst some other new features.

That said, before any Verizon users get super excited, VZ Navigator VX is only available for a select group of Android smartphones and only in a select group of cities at this point. As for the compatible handsets, those include the Motorola Droid X, the HTC Droid Incredible and the Samsung Fascinate. And so far there was no mention as to which other handsets would get support, however Verizon did mention that more were coming later this year.
Moving on and into the areas where the 3D service is available, at present those include a total of six cities — Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Mo., New York, and Washington D.C. And similar to the few details in terms of the future handset support, Verizon stated that more cities are in the works for 3D navigation, and that they were coming in 2011.
Other goodies that arrive with VZ Navigator VX, in addition to 3D mapping include “real” signs and road views as well as satellite maps and day/night modes. Furthermore, there is also added integration with Facebook. And for those who may snicker at being able to share on Facebook, it does have a good use case, or at least I thought it does. My example was this, I took a rather long round trip road trip by myself and used an iPad navigation app and was easily able to share my progress with my family back home by sharing with Facebook and not having to make phone calls.
But that aside , the VZ Navigator VX app is not free, but it does come with a few options. Those interested in using the service can opt for the one day/24 hour pass for $2.99, the weekly pass for $4.99 or the unlimited per month option for $9.99.
All in all, this does sound like a nice option, and personally I have heard some good things about VZ Navigator in general, however I cannot get passed the fact that Google already offers Navigation with Android, and at least in my experience it has been really good. Based on that, who would want to pay otherwise?
