MSI WindPad 100W Windows 7 Tablet Now Available

MSI WindPad 100W Begins Shipping, Priced At $709.95 & Featuring 10.1" Display, Intel Atom CPU, 2GB RAM & 32GB SSD

As we expected, MSI unveiled some new goodies during CES, one of which was the WindPad 100W tablet, which as you can likely guess by the ‘W’ in the name — is a tablet that runs Windows 7. That aside though, while MSI unveiled it, we were not entirely sure when it would come available or how much it would be selling for.

Flash forward till today and you can now go ahead with a purchase — as long as you are willing to plunk down a decent amount of cash as the WindPad 100W comes in at $709.95. Yup, just over $700 which may not sound all that bad until you realize what it is. It is a tablet, yes, but it is a tablet that is basically a netbook. Well, a netbook with a touchscreen display and without a keyboard anyway. The MSI WindPad 100W features;

  • 10.1 inch multi-touch capable display at 1024 x 600
  • Single-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor
  • 2GB DDRII RAM
  • 32GB SSD
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Rear facing camera
  • Front facing camera
  • Measurements of 274 x 173 x 18.5 mm
  • Weight of 800 grams (with battery)

Other goodies include a accelerometer, light sensor, g-sensor, SD card reader, USB 2.0 slots, a mini HDMI port and a battery life that was described as being “over 6 hours.” With that, the WindPad 100W is available with online retailer Simply Electronics and comes along with free delivery.

I guess all things considered, the price seems fair for a tablet considering the current market pricing but at the same time its hard not to look at those specs and think netbook, which ultimately means a price point of about half. Otherwise, MSI is also going to have the WindPad 100A, however at this time we have not yet seen it come available for purchase. And similar to the ‘W’ in the 100W name, the ‘A’ in 100A stands for Android.
