MSI GT680R-008US Gaming Laptop Emerges, Offers Substantial Processing [Sandy Bridge And THX Make This Laptop A Force To Be Reckoned With]

So the folks out at MSI have pulled back the curtain on a new gaming laptop, the MSI GT680R-008US, and this particular model will definitely have all your power needs well in hand in terms of gaming. Of course, you may be a little hesitant when you catch a glimpse of this beast’s price tag, but that’s neither here nor there.

And you can tell I’m already being glib about pricing, which is a fair sign that this thing’s really packing indeed. The MSI GT680R-008US is loaded to the gills with an Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, fully eight gigs of RAM, a terabyte’s worth of storage supplied by a matched pair of 500 gig hard drives, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M backed up by 1.5GB of DDR5 RAM, wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 720p webcam, USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI jack to let you send your monitor video to a much bigger screen, Windows 7 Home Premium for an OS, and in perhaps the biggest surprise I’ve seen on a laptop in quite some time, THX TruStudio Pro, which supports the Dynaudio Premium speakers to give surround sound effects.

There are even some proprietary MSI systems in here, including MSI TDE (which improves CPU performance), and MSI Cooler Boost (which improves system cooling capability).

Now, the price tag: we all knew this was coming, and yes, it’s pretty hefty. You’ll be able to lay your hands on the surprisingly tricked-out MSI GT680R-008US for the substantial yet fairly reasonable (considering what all you get in this package!) price of $1650. But for crying out loud, getting that THX stamp on there means a whole lot by even a casual user’s standards, and it’s not every day I see THX anything on a laptop, which makes this something of an achievement in its own right. It’ll be a hefty punch in your wallet, no doubt, but it will certainly carry its weight in sheer performance by the look of it.
