Barnes & Noble has released the latest firmware update for the NOOKcolor ereader. This update brings the version number up to 1.1.0 and is available by way of the Barnes & Noble support website. Or for those with a little more patience — sit back and wait for the update notification to come as it will be arriving as an OTA sometime in a few days.

That said, just what does the update include, or more important, will you want to upgrade now or wait for the OTA. What we can tell you is that the update includes a nice mix of bug fixes, performance improvements and some smaller new features. Of course, ultimately only you can decide on whether it has to be now or can wait. So without further adieu, here is the complete change log from Barnes & Noble;

Improved performance of Wi-Fi connectivity, Home and Shop.
Ability to pinch and zoom in browser.
Enhanced reading experience for magazines and children’s books.
Access helpful NOOKcolor related information and support tips on the new default browser home page.
Reduce mistyped passwords with “show password” option during registration and Wi-Fi set up.
Easily identify NOOK kids Read To Me™ books with a new text banner next to the titles in Shop.
General bug fixes and performance improvements.

For those wishing to go forward with the update now, you will first need to download the update from the Barnes & Noble website (use the via link at the bottom of this post) and then connect the NOOKcolor and transfer the file over. From that point its a matter of disconnecting the NOOKcolor and then waiting a few seconds for the device to recognize the file you added. After that just sit back and follow the prompts on your device. For those needing a little more hand holding, there is a rather complete set of directions on the Barnes & Noble website.

And lastly, for those with the patience and willing to wait for the over-the-air update to arrive, you will want to be on the lookout for the little green ‘n’ to show up on the status bar.
