How To Get Unlimited iPhone Data On AT&T – Just Threaten To Go To Verizon [Reports Come Out Saying That AT&T Will Give You Unlimited iPhone Data Plan If You Say You're Going To Verizon, Is It Too Good To Be True?]

The Verizon iPhone is coming soon. Verizon is offering unlimited data plans. AT&T doesn’t have unlimited data plans. So, if you want unlimited data on your iPhone, you go to Verizon, right? Just wait. The Associated Press is reporting that many people have managed to get unlimited data plans form AT&T simply by calling up and threatening to go to Verizon. Is this too good to be true?

According to the AP story, it’s an “unadvertised loophole” in AT&T’s policy. If you previously had unlimited data with the company, and switched to one of the new limited plans (200MB or 2GB) during a phone upgrade – you can get back to unlimited by calling the company and asking.

The AP story says that one man, Jose Argumedo, and his friend both had previously had unlimited data plans. They now were on limited plans with AT&T. Argumedo called AT&T customer service and threatened to go to Verizon. AT&T quickly switched him back to unlimited data to keep him happy.

But – you have to have been an AT&T customer who was once already on unlimited data. The AP story reports that if you have never been on AT&T’s unlimited data plan, they won’t give it to you.

As you can imagine, AT&T was quiet on the story. When contacted by the AP, AT&T rep Mark Spiegel said that they handle each customer differently, and that they wouldn’t discuss specifics.

I think a lot of folks are still grandfathered into unlimited data plans on AT&T from before the introduced the limited plans. Sounds like AT&T is letting their customer service reps put you back on unlimited data if you threaten to leave. After all, they’ve got to keep that churn rate low.
