DC Universe Online Becomes Sony Online Entertainment's Fastest Selling Game

SOE Announces DC Universe Online Is Their Fastest Selling Game In History, Having Trouble Keeping Copies In Stock

Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley has announced that DC Universe Online has become the company’s fastest selling game in history. This might not seem all that impressive at face value, but it’s worth remembering that Sony Online Entertainment is responsible for games such as EverQuest, Star Wars Galaxies, and PlanetSide, so beating out those titles is an achievement in itself.

Things are apparently going so good for the game that Smedley says they’re having trouble keeping boxed copies of the title in stock, though he says that more copies should be in stores this week. The big question now is whether DC Universe Online can keep this momentum up and actually challenge World of Warcraft for the MMO throne. Of course, signs point to no, as any game going up against the king of MMOs has the odds stacked against them, but DC Universe Online’s early success might lead to more surprising developments somewhere down the road.

    1. DC Online Guide says:

This was the game I was waiting for. A true comic book MMO – not a mishmash or a “fresh concept” but the world of Batman, Superman and everyone else ready to explore.

      And it’s awesome.

But, it’s also different. VERY different. This is not the same MMO we’ve grown up with. Where are the classes? The traditional skill trees? The ponderous combat system and macros?

DC Universe Online tosses out a lot of the standard fare in favour of something totally and completely unique and it has everyone up in arms thinking “I can’t do this!”
