Dead Space 2 Hardcore Mode Previewed By Visceral Games [Visceral Games & EA Implement A Truly Punishing Hardcore Mode In Dead Space 2]
Is it just me, or does the hardcore difficulty setting on most games these days leave something to be desired? While ramping up enemy health to the point where each little monster feels like a fully armored tank might be enough for some game companies, Visceral and EA aren’t willing to stop there with Dead Space 2. Their plan for hardcore mode is just a little more punishing.

And by “just a little more punishing,” I mean that its probably going to make you cry. Dead Space 2′s hardcore mode will have no checkpoints, and you’ll only get to save three times throughout the campaign. In an interview with MTV Multiplayer, Visceral’s Creative Director Wright Bagwell explained how they came up with the idea:
How do we make players feel like it’s more challenging. I thought, well, one of the things that’s really comforting in a game is the ability to save. When you get to some place and you’re like, ‘Ahhhhh, save station, everything is OK.’ We thought, if that’s the one thing that makes players feel all warm and fuzzy and safe, then let’s take it away from them. That’s where the idea came from.
Those of you itching to try out Dead Space 2′s hardcore mode will soon get your chance, as the game releases in the North America in just a few minutes (if you live within the bounds of the Eastern Time Zone, that is) and on January 28th in Europe.
