Motorola Droid X 2, Droid 3 & HTC Droid Incredible 2 Coming This Year?

Verizon’s Droid line helped make Android smartphones popular in the USA and worldwide but also allowed Big Red face the iPhone threat. But now the Verizon iPhone 4 is getting ready to start selling in stores, will we see the carrier invest as much marketing muscle in its Android side of the business?

Three of the four Verizon 4G LTE Android devices presented at CES 2011 were not included in the Droid family: the HTC Thunderbolt, the LG Revolution and the unnamed Samsung handset (which could still become a Droid Something later down the road) and only the Droid Bionic from Motorola made it to what appeared to be a dying series of handsets.

But it looks like there’s still hope for the Droid line as there important Android handsets will succeed current Droid models, or at least that’s what current rumors say. We’re talking about the Motorola Droid X 2, the Motorola Droid 3 and the HTC Droid Incredible 2 which should be launched at some point later this year.

These three phones have been spotted in Verizon’s timeline so we might should see them in spring and summer with the Droid Incredible expected to hit at some point in April or May, the Droid X 2 in July and the Droid 3 in August.

We don’t have any specs and features for these three rumored handsets but, just like with the iPhone series, we’d expect Motorola and HTC to upgrade their previous models and equip them with current technologies: dual-core processors, more RAM, better displays, Android 2.3 Gingerbread or later and 4G LTE connectivity.

After all the four 4G LTE Android handsets are all expected to hit Verizon’s channels in the first half of the year, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see more new 4G devices in the months after that.
