Eric Schmidt Fired? Starting April 4 Larry Page to Take On Google’s CEO Position

Eric Schmidt Stepts Down, But Remains With the Company as Executive Chairman; Did He Do Evil?

Breaking news, folks, Google’s CEO, famous Eric Schmidt, is stepping down from that CEO position he’s occupied for a bunch of years. Or in other words, he was just fired. How else would you better describe such a decision?

We’ve seen a bunch of CEOs step down this year from various reasons. Nokia and HP have new leaders at their helms and, considering that Steve Jobs has taken a medical leave of absence, one might say that even Apple is going to rely on an interim CEO, quite possibly Tim Cook, that will oversee operations while Jobs is away. But why is Google changing CEOs at this time?

Eric Schmidt will be replaced as CEO starting with April 4 by Larry Page, one of Google’s co-founders, but he will continue to serve under Google’s new management assuming the Executive Chairman decision. Eric Schmidt explains it all in a personal blog entry and apparently blames it all on the current success of the company:

And as our results today show, the outlook is bright. But as Google has grown, managing the business has become more complicated. So Larry, Sergey and I have been talking for a long time about how best to simplify our management structure and speed up decision making—and over the holidays we decided now was the right moment to make some changes to the way we are structured.

We’ll call “bullshit” here, as this is definitely a very strange move. So does Google mean to say they are too big to be properly managed by a person that was in charge of everything happening with the company for no less than 10 years? And, in order to simplify the whole management procedure that person that should be aware of everything that has happened with Google in the past decade will step down in favor of a replacement?

Sure, Larry Page, as one of the co-founders of the company is certainly aware of everything Google too and, undoubtedly he’s part of Google’s growth, but should he really take that CEO spot? After all Eric Schmidt did perform quite admirably in fighting Apple and everyone else so there’s no apparent reason for sending him to the background. Did he do any evil? I can’t wait to see the movie based on this!

On the surface this sounds as though problems with
joint leadership of google is not new.
At the same time individual control at the top is
necessary to stabilize management in order to allow progress and move the company on a positive track. Good Luck.

Eric Schmidt is way over rated as a CEO. He has a pathetic record at Sun, Novell… He was lucky to be at the helm of a company that was doing great. It wasn’t doing great because of him. Carol Bartz got lucky at Autodesk & people incorrectly attributed the success to her. See what she’s done at Yahoo! It’s getting worse.

What is remarkable is that Google has done so well DESPITE Eric Schmidt. Now, is Page the best is to be seen but Google is in a tougher position now than it was in 2004, when Yahoo! with Terry Semel & Sue Decker (two jokers) was clueless & asleep at the wheel vs. today when there are smart people all around.

The same ‘geniuses’ who talk of the lack of adult supervision & are sceptical of Page’s abilities are sucking up to a very senior adult running Facebook!

Pls explain this consistency to me pls!
