Cisco Shows Off Linksys E4200 Router

New Cisco Dual-Band Router Can Pack Up To 450 Mbps Speeds

For those of you who think your home network could use a little shoring up and some better speeds on the transfer from server to terminal, the folks out at Cisco have heard your pleas for more bandwidth and have brought it in the grandest of fashions via their Linksys E4200 router.

You’ll be getting quite a sweet package in here,as the Linksys E4200 is set to include simultaneous dual-band wireless-N, four gigabit ports, and six antennas to give you some nice range bonuses. You’ll also pick up USB ports so you can patch your external hard drives to the network, Cisco Connect configuration software (along with some support for parental controls and guest access), and a UPnP media server so you can add on an Internet-capable television. Down the line, Cisco’s even planning to support a virtual USB port so that you can use wireless printing across multiple users and even support for IPv6.

You’ll get plenty of features, and the performance is well worth a look at too. Cisco says this little beauty can reach up to 450 Mbps (on the 5 GHz band, on the 2.4 GHz band, meanwhile, you’ll be down around 300 Mbps, which is still pretty good but a letdown nonetheless), which is certainly no slouch in the speed department. They’re going for the high end on this one, and though it’s priced like a device clearly going for the high end, it’s hard to deny that the specs are there to support such a move. And if you’re looking to do a lot of streaming, well, it’s going to be hard to top this one for sheer capability in that arena.

You can get this one right now out at Best Buy, or your choice of Linksys’ site or Best Buy’s, and you’ll shell out $179.99 for this beauty.
