Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Multitouch Update
Multi-touch has been one advantage that iOS based devices have over most Android smartphones and tablets. Some manufacturers are updating their devices with multi-touch, though, such as Sony Ericsson’s X10.

The X10 is capable of multi-touch, as an earlier hack demonstrated. Sony Ericsson announced an official pinch-and-zoom support, and Android updates will start rolling out this week.
The multi touch support update will initially roll out in the Japanese market, with NTT DoCoMo getting first dibs at the Android upgrade. The multi-touch input will only be able to support two finger pinch-and-zoom, though, and will not support other movements like rotate, nor multi-finger input.
Furthermore, Sony Ericsson has made it clear that it will not be upgrading the X10 to Android 2.2 FroYo. Sony Ericsson reps in the UK believe that their customized Android 2.1 installation is at par with a default 2.2.
We believe the features included in the Android 2.1 phone are on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of 2.2 #X10
With this, and with the news that the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia arc will support Android 2.3 Gingerbread or possibly even 2.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, it might mean the end of the line for any official Xperia X10 Android upgrades.

With contracts being typically 2 years, SonyEricsson’s decision to abandon updates to the Xperia X10 series in less than one year is disgraceful, especially with the benefits of 2.2 (adobe flash, install to SD, processor optimizations, etc.).
And with SonyEricsson demonstrating this attitude with the existing, high-performance Xperia X10 series (which is more than capable of running 2.2, 2.3, and later), why would anyone trust them to do any different on the new Xperia arc?
The meaning of SonyEricsson’s choices now are obvious to informed consumers: if you want to get the improvements to your phone that come from new versions of android, avoid SonyEricsson. HTC and others have a *much better* track record for providing updates to their customers.
so, let me wrap my head around this. my xperia x10 is soon to b a paper weight, so i ordered the xperia arc. now, seems that i should’ve done more research and considered buying an HTC phone, or maybe getting the new galaxy s by samsung. my wife loves her samsung captivate. i don’t care much for it, but maybe the new one will be better than the arc. i get so annoyed by all the lil things that my phone doesn’t have and that that phone over there has but now it’s too late to upgrade w/o paying $600+ for it. i think i’ll stop reading reviews and just enjoy my xperia arc. some people say, “it’s not cheating if the other spouse doesn’t know about it.” well, i’m gnna stop cheating on my phone, cuz it’s driving me crazy, simply cuz i know about it!!!
Wow, we get a dualtouch screen, because , lets face it, it isn`t multitouch.(and wasn`t that impossible they said before, and now it is suddenly possible again? How about those millions of colours for the screen?)
I was hoping for 2.2 for certain features, like mentioned earlier. Did I care for face recognition or the whole useless weird stuff that they put on it? NO! Timescape? I could care less.
And smile recognition? Totally useless, for there is very little to smile about.
Will I buy another sony ericsson when my first year contract isn`t even over, and they already don`t supply the neccessary upgrades, so another year with an old obsolete phone after this year.
(yes my contract is also 2 years)
Well, my reply would be something with ‘shoving’ and ‘a place where the sun don`t shine’, I find another company for my phone next time.
