Nintendo 3DS Live: US Launch Games Revealed
Nintendo of America held a press event in New York City today, discussing the launch details of the Nintendo 3DS for America. What did they announce? In the “launch window”, they’re going to have a whopping 30 games available, which includes games from most genres out there.

Here are the games they named:
- PilotWings Resort (will feature the same “WooHoo Island” featured in Wii Fit and Wii Sports resort)
- Nintendogs + Cats (the cats and dogs will ‘recognize’ you via the 3D camera)
- Steel Diver (this was a tech demo they showed off at E3. It’s been turned into a full game and will use the 3DS’ accelerometer and gyroscope. You’ll wave the 3DS around to control it)
- Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said that no launch game has been ambitious about integrating 3D. With the Street Pass ad-hoc stuff, you’ll be able to “win without even knowing it”. Also, Multiplayer fighting via WiFi and the internet, etc.)
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
- Kid Icarus Uprising
- Dead or Alive Dimensions
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D
- Madden NFL 3D
- Ridge Racer 3D
- Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D
- LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
- Asphalt 3D
- Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D
Other new software named for the 3DS includes an Activity Log that will act as a log for how long you play each game, but it’s also a fitness tracker that will help you exercise with a pedometer. They’ve got a Mii Maker that will turn you into a Mii with the 3D camera. Also included is “AR Games”, which as you can imagine, is a collection of AR games for the 3DS. No word on if they’ll be updating that. Also, a new and improved web browser for the 3DS.
They’re also adding a Virtual Console for the 3DS that will let you get Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games on the 3DS. Not bad, eh?
Nintendo is considering the time from the release date (March 27th) to the E3 trade show (in June) to be the “launch window”. As mentioned, they promise that 30 games will be released in that time, and that most of them will be near or on March 27th.
Nintendo went out of their way to make clear all the third-party support they’re getting. Some folks have been critical of Nintendo’s third party support, saying that all the best games for Nintendo consoles are Nintendo-made. I dunno if Nintendo is responding to those complaints or what – but they’ve sure got quite the American launch lineup. What do you think?
