2011 MacBook Pro to Look Like the Current MacBook Air? Maybe With Some Sandy Bridge on Top?

Apple Sees the Current MacBook Air As “The Mac of the Future Shipping Today”]

This isn’t the first time we talk about the next-gen MacBook Pro models, the upcoming 2011 laptops, that are said to offer the same general design as the current MacBook Air does. But today, while dissecting the transcript of Apple’s quarterly earnings call, we came across a hint that suggests this particular design change.

The MacBook Pro laptops that will be launched at some point later this year, quite possibly in April, could take on the current form of the MacBook Air and this comes straight from Apple’s Tim Cook. Here’s what he said during yesterday’s Q&A session about the Air and the future of the Pro:

The way that we look at it is it’s the Mac of the future shipping today, and it was a phenomenal part of our growth on the Mac last quarter. It has gotten off to an unbelievable start. The customers love it. They love the precision of it, they love the thinness, the weight, the instant on and the list is long, I think. And so we’re really happy with how it’s doing out of the starting block. And as you know, we’ve only been shipping it for less than 90 days, and so we’ve just gotten going.

The Air has been selling quite well as it impressed the public with its new sleek design, not to mention that this time around we’re looking at 11- and 13-inch models.

Tim Cook never said that the next MacBook Pros looking like Airs are coming in 2011 so we might only see them arrive later on. But slimmer 15- and 17-inch versions of the current MacBook Air that call themselves Pro would definitely be welcomed as this is a great time to pull off such a stunt considering Intel’s newly released Sandy Bridge line of processors will offer some impressive graphics support without the need of an actual graphic card. Or at least that’s what Intel kept saying and showing off at CES.

But hey, it’s all speculation now, so we’ll be back with more stuff about the next-gen MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops in the following months.
