Sony Online Entertainment Offers Updates On Upcoming MMOs
Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley has provided Eurogamer with updates on three of their upcoming MMOs. First up is the console version of Free Realms, which he says has been submitted to SCEA. “If I was a betting man,” he said, “I’m betting sometime early February it gets launched on the PS3 in SCEA. And probably, and this is a guess, sometime in March for SCEE.”

Smedley also said that Free Realms would follow a free-to-play pay structure. Concerning their upcoming PlanetSide title, which is currently under the codename PlanetSide next, Smedley didn’t divulge too many details, only that they’re still planning the game for a release in late quarter one or early quarter two of this year.
Finally, Smedley talked about the Agency, but again didn’t supply a release date. “We’re not giving out a specific date yet because we don’t know it,” he said, though he did say that it would be out sometime late this year. He also discussed why the company plans to take time developing and releasing the Agency, saying that they want to make the Agency stand out from the other “cookie-cutter” MMOs that are coming out in the next few months.
With DC Universe Online already released for both PC and PS3 this year, it seems that 2011 is shaping up to be a big year for Sony Online Entertainment. We’ll be sure to let you know when solid release dates are announced for all three titles, which are expected to be released for both PS3 and PC.
