Netflix Not Going To Be Offering Streaming HBO Content At $7.99 Per Month
While Netflix streaming content seems to be growing at a rather decent level, one such network content that does not appear to be coming anytime soon is HBO. Well, not unless Netflix did something that would really upset customers — raise prices.

And sadly, according to the details coming from a recent Hollywood Reporter report — it would not be a small per month increase. One “unnamed high-placed Time Warner executive” was noted as saying that Netflix would have to raise their rates from $7.99 up to $20 per month in order to get “a meaningful amount of HBO content.”
And according to Jeff Cusson who is HBO’s Senior VP of Corporate Affairs, they have “no intention of making its content available for streaming on Netflix.” Adding further to that, Cusson stated that “HBO believes in content exclusivity, especially for high-value content” and that is their “rationale for not selling streaming rights to a competing subscription service.” And by competing they are referring to the other places (iTunes and Amazon) where they currently license content.
Thankfully though, not all networks feel that same way and at present Netflix has a fair amount of streaming television such as the somewhat recent additions from Disney and ABC. Personally, despite my frequent use I am not sure I would be willing to up my Netflix subscription from $7.99 to $20 just for the addition of HBO, though, they do have some decent series that I would like to be able to watch.
Interestingly enough, this comes at a time when we are learning that Roku added their first “cable” channel. And for those who missed the earlier post, Roku has added WealthTV for $2.99 per month on a month-to-month basis. That announcement does lead one to wonder, just because HBO will not add their content to Netflix, would they consider adding a channel on the Roku set-top boxes. Personally, I would pay to get HBO that way, assuming it was not any more expensive than it would cost with my regular provider — FiOS.
