Nike+ GPS iPhone App Features Social Tagging

Nike Plus GPS New Feature Lets You Tag Your Friends For Friendly, Physical Competition

The Nike+ GPS application showcases the iPhone’s GPS capabilities, and how this can be extended for use in other physical applications besides navigation. With a new social tagging feature, you can play contests with your friends.

A new feature added by Nike in its most recent update adds in another novel way to record your runs. The feature, called Tag, lets you compete with online friends. You can simply click the Tag button after your run, and tag your contacts and friends. They will then have to complete certain tasks or goals related to your run. They can try to beat you in many ways, such as for distance, time, or something as fun as the first person to actually runs. You can set the goal, such that at the end of three days, whoever runs the shortest or starts running last will be “IT.”

The system is meant to encourage friends to start running for better health. Of course, it also encourages them to download the Nike+ application, if they don’t already have it. Nike+ costs $1.99 from the Apple app store, and is an interesting way to keep track of your regular jogs or runs, including the calories burned.
