Sony: PSP2 Will Be As Powerful As PS3
The PSP2 will be as powerful as the PS3. That’s coming straight from the mouth of Sony, apparently, who is telling that to development studios who license the tools to make PSP2 games. This information is coming from British trade site MCV. According to them, the second-generation hand-held is coming soon, and is set for a release this holiday season.

According to MCV, Sony is pitching the PSP2 to developers and publishers as a companion to the PS3 that’s just as powerful as the home system and will have ‘rich games’ to match. They’re also making the aforementioned promise that it’s just as powerful as the PS3. This may not be complete bunk as some rumors have had the PSP2 having a Cell processor, similar to the one found in the PS3.
Overall, it sounds like the PSP2 is coming up pretty fast. A ‘high-level source’ within Sony told MCV that the company will finalize their PSP2 launch plans and dates after Nintendo makes their launch plans public with the 3DS. Of course, with MCV reporting that the PSP2 is coming near the holidays, don’t expect it to come out around the same time as the Nintendo 3DS, which is expected in first half of the year.
The PSP 2 is said to have an HD screen with the usual twin-stick controls. MCV says that Sony is asking developers and publishers to develop more “richer, in-depth content” to differentiate the platform from the iPhone and Android phones.
Expect us to see the PSP 2 unveiled this month, with more info coming at E3 and GDC.
