Pokemon Black & White Hit 5 Million Copies Sold In Japan
Pokemon Black & White have reached a milestone that only a few other DS games have achieved: Andriasang is reporting that sales for the latest installments of the Pokemon franchise have passed the five million mark. As of January 9th, the end of the most recent tracking week for Japan’s sales, the total number of Pokemon Black & White cartridges sold sits at 5,036,724.

Only four other DS titles have reached the five million mark, but Pokemon Black & White – the best-selling Japanese game of 2010 – reached that milestone faster than any of them. To be fair, though, these are sales numbers for two different games that count as one, and I’d imagine that more than handful of people bought both versions. As well, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd gave the latest versions of Pokemon a real run for their money in 2010 – the game managed to sell nearly 3.5 million copies and was only released on December 1st.
It’s certainly possible that, had Monster Hunter Portable 3rd been released earlier in the year, it would have managed to push Pokemon out of the top spot. Still though, those who say that Pokemon is a dying fad are definitely mistaken.
