Apple Gets 9.7 Percent Of United States PC Market

Apple iPad Helps Company Nab Nearly 10 Percent Of US Market

The fourth quarter sales numbers for PCs in the United States are in and Apple continues to show great growth thanks in large part to their signature tablet computer, the iPad. According to industry insiders, Apple had 9.7 percent of total United States PC shipments in Q4 which is actually a 24 percent increase from the same time period in 2009.

While this may sound like great news for the company, those numbers are a bit misleading. Certainly the company has made great strides in the PC business thanks in large part to the iPad but they are still a distant follower to companies like HP, which currently has nearly 30 percent of the market. While HP and Dell (which controls 22.1 percent of the market) are far outpacing Steve Jobs’ company, Apple is making a move on Acer and Toshiba who combined are just a couple of percentage points ahead of them as far as market share.
