Best Buy Wants To "Future-Proof" Your Electronics, Officially Announces Buy Back Program

Best Buy 'Buy Back" Program To Begin This Month, Means A Potential Return Of Up To 50%

We have seen the leaked details leading up to today, however Best Buy has officially announced their Buy Back Program. The program will kick off this month and according to Best Buy, will help “future-proof” today’s consumer electronics purchases.

Of course, while Best Buy calls this future-proofing of your purchases, it can also be looked at as them future-proofing future sales. Either way though, this seems like it could be a win-win for both Best Buy as well as the customers. First and foremost, the Buy Back Program will include a category for mobile phones we well as notebooks, netbooks, tablets and televisions under $5000.

That said, the Buy Back Program is not free — those interested will have to buy their way in at a price of $69.99 for a notebook, netbook or tablet. As for the program pricing for a mobile phone or television, so far that was not disclosed.

Otherwise, once you have purchased the Buy Back Program and then later decide to trade in your device, the amount you will receive is determined based on how long ago you made your purchase. And of course, assuming the device is still in good condition. The breakdown for time is as follows;

Redeem your Buy Back within 6 months from purchase effective date, and get up to 50 percent of your purchase price
Redeem your Buy Back after 6 months to 12 months from purchase effective date, and get up to 40 percent
Redeem your Buy Back after 12 months to 18 months from purchase effective date and get up to 30 percent
Redeem your Buy Back after 18 months to 24 from purchase effective date and get up to 20 percent
For TVs only, redeem your Buy Back within 48 months from purchase effective date and get up to 10 percent

The real question remains, will this be enough to convince you to make a purchase from Best Buy as opposed to another retailer moving forward? Me personally, I could not guarantee that I would, but the potential would certainly be there and I am thinking I would at least check the price before committing elsewhere.
