US Cellular Offers Froyo Update Plans For Their Android Smartphones

Another carrier has detailed their Android 2.2 update plans, and judging from the reactions they have gotten, people seem to be either really happy or really annoyed. Of course, that could have something to due with the roll-out timeline given.

The details are still rather general at this time, and given that we suspect there may still be the potential for a delay. That said, we are going to hope for the best, you know, no delays. Anyway, at present, US Cellular has offered up the details for the Samsung Acclaim, the HTC Desire, the Samsung Mesmerize and the LG Apex.

And the news will be the best for those in the beginning of that short list. Yup, the Acclaim update set to begin soon. In fact, US Cellular has stated that the Acclaim Froyo update process will begin at the end of next week. Of course, they have also stated that more details will be arriving “next week” so it looks like even the Acclaim users have to wait a bit longer. Otherwise, the HTC Desire will be next up in the queue with the update set to begin at the end of January. And then those using a Mesmerize and/or Apex will have a few months to wait and be jealous as their update is not scheduled to arrive until March.

With that, while it will likely be hard for those on a Mesmerize or Apex to wait until March for the update to arrive — at least you know it is coming. And that is something that some other Android users cannot say. Heck, we are seeing plenty of handsets end with Android 2.1 (or in some cases Android 1.6) so when you consider the alternative, waiting till March sounds just dandy. Of course, by the time March rolls around Android 2.3 usage is likely to have spread. Ah, the vicious Android update cycle.
