Gigabyte Shows Off S1080 Tablet PC
Didn’t get enough tablet news out of the CES show? Well, then do I have a treat for you: seems one of the many, many new tablets to emerge shortly didn’t make the scene out at CES, and instead had its own little cotillion out in Taiwan. Say hello to the Gigabyte S1080, another in a long, long string of tablet PCs.

The Gigabyte S1080 is packing a surprisingly robust features set, with a 10.1 inch capacitive touch screen display running a dual core Intel Atom N550 processor. You’ll also get a USB 3.0 port, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, Bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity, a VGA port, and a surprisingly hefty 320 gigs of onboard storage capacity.
On the off chance that you’re not into touch screen navigation, which is definitely something out of the ordinary for tablet users, you’ll even be accommodated here through the addition of a couple tactile mouse buttons on one edge of the tablet as well as an optical mouse on the other side, so that you can work the thing with just your thumbs.
Admittedly, it’s got a pretty good spec sheet going on in there–there are plenty of people out there still working on desktop PCs that haven’t gone dual-core yet–and the price tag isn’t half bad either at $300, especially considering what all you get with this.
But still, it does seem like the kind of thing that likely won’t find an audience. I can’t imagine the Gigabyte S1080 competing in the same marketplace as, say, the iPad or most any Android tablet, because they simply have more useful features and a much better name recognition factor on their side.
Still though, especially for those who haven’t already picked a side in the tablet wars, this might be one to consider when they hit store shelves next month.
