CES 2011 LIVE: LG Optimus 2X Hands-on & Pictures
At the LG press conference this week at CES – LG said that their Optimus 2X was the first dual-core smartphone and the fastest phone in the world (Motorola would later make similar claims with the Atrix, but we’ll move on). At the LG booth in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, I got my hands on the phone – but how fast is the ‘world’s fastest phone’?

Well, a quick hands-on at a trade show isn’t really the place for scientific testing. I can’t confirm nor deny that the LG Optimus 2X is the world’s fastest phone. But, it is quick. The device is responsive and powerful, and easily plays HD video. LG claims that it has as a powerful dual-core processor using Tegra 2, in theory, making it one of the most powerful phones we’ve seen yet. In addition, it’s also just a touch heavier than its little brother, the LG Optimus Black.
It’s got a 4-inch display in addition to all that processing power, and the screen intensity really impressed me. The screen seems very bright, and pretty high quality. Outside of the OLED displays on the Samsung phones, I think this is the best screen I’ve seen yet on a mobile phone. LG said at their press conference this week that the Optimus 2X is the first phone capable of both 1080p recording and playback.

Overall, I liked the LG Optimus 2X and I like LG’s phone offerings in general. They had a weak year last year in mobile sales – and I wasn’t particularly impressed with their LG Optimus One. But, the LG Optimus 2X, along with its cousins, the Revolution and Optimus Black – I think LG has got the hardware to have an impressive year. I’d urge you to check out my other hands-on reports with the Revolution and Optimus Black.
