CES 2011: Samsung 9 Series MacBook Air Rival Revealed, Sporting Sandy Bridge

Sandy Bridge Equipped Samsung Series 9 Targeting MacBook Air?

Seeing how long the MacBook Air has been around you’d think if Samsung were going to do something in that direction they’d have done it already. But since they’ve only just begun seriously ramping up their bid for the notebook market, we guess they’re just now reaching the MBA on their hitlist, having gotten netbooks/Windows 7 tablets out of the way. So, what are we looking at here?

The .64 inch thickness is what will be one thing to draw the Air comparisons, especially for a 13.3 incher like this one. The $1,599 asking price will be another. But the centerpiece is the Core i5 2537M processor, a ULV Intel “Sandy Bridge” original that goes from 1.4GHz to 2.3GHz. The rest of the specs are pretty standard, with an “Ultra Vivid” LED display, a 128GB SSD drive, 4GB of RAM,  and a respectable 6.5 hours of battery life, or at least Samsung says so. USB 3.0, Bluetooth 3.0, WiMAX connectivity options round out the package, which will be putting in a retail appearance this spring.
