CES 2011: New Samsung Galaxy Player to Fight Against the iPod touch

Samsung Comes Up With Its Own iPod touch Version, the Galaxy Player; Puts Froyo on Board to Spite Galaxy S Users

Just as expected, Samsung launched the Galaxy Player, the first Android MP3/PMP player in the world and, along the Zune, an iPod touch alternative. But unlike the Zune, the Galaxy Player could become a lot more popular.

The Samsung Galaxy Player is basically a Galaxy S smartphone but without all the phone capabilities. The Galaxy Player will offer a 4-inch touchscreen display, a 2-megapixel camera, 8/16GB on-board storage upgradeable via microSD cards and, most importantly, Android 2.2 Froyo in the background along with access to more than 100,000 apps in the Android Market.

I bet Galaxy S owners will be pretty annoyed at Samsung to see them launch the Galaxy Player with Froyo on board while one of the best sold Android device of 2010 is still waiting for the official Android 2.2 upgrade.

Getting back to the Samsung Player though, we don’t have pricing details and release dates for you just so stick around for more details as we proceed through CES 2011.
