CES 2011 Live: Motorola Atrix 4G Webtop Demoed; Desktop & Laptop Controlled via Android Phone

Motorola Comes Up with Super Smartphone Application, the Webtop, That Allows A Computer-Like Smartphone Experience

Earlier today we showed you the Motorola Atrix 4G, one of the most powerful handsets coming from Motorola and one that’s going to totally change the way you use your smartphone. The phone was launched during the AT&T live event but it’s back at the Motorola press event that we’ve seen the Webtop feature in action.

Motorola has decided to help you enjoy your smartphone to the fullest and transform it into both a desktop and a laptop, with a simple application, Webtop, which will bring unknown powers to your smartphone. You’ll be able to extend your smartphone experience to the computer of your choice, although in order to do that you’ll need one of the two Motorola docs that will probably be sold separately by Moto and carrier partners in the near future, the Laptop Dock or HD Dock. Once you do though, you’ll be able to enjoy the full web and perform your daily web-related activities straight from the Atrix 4G.

Using the Atrix 4G you’ll be able to bring your daily smartphone activities to a large monitor, via HDMI, or on that special laptop dock. Simply put, the Atrix 4G will become a desktop or laptop computer and you’ll be able to even play Angry Birds on a bigger screen, without having to wait for Rovio to bring it to the PS3.

Those docs will cost you extra although we’ll talk about pricing details once we have them. The question is though, will other smartphone makers create similar devices?
