CES 2011: Netgear Shows Off New Routers, Home Networking App

Netgear Brings Routers, Netgear Genie, Wireless HD to CES 2011

Netgear showed off a slew of new devices out at the CES show, and though they’re heavy on the routers, if you’re using the internet at home, you’re probably going to want to know about these. And we’ve even got some extra surprises here too.

Netgear is all about the home networking, so it’s really not a surprise their CES entrants are a bit heavy on the routers. First off, we’ve got the N600 Wireless Dual-Band Gigabit Router, which Netgear is calling its “ultimate networking machine”. Considering that it offers the Clear Channel Selector system to automatically bypass busy wi-fi channels and the ReadyShare Remote system to remotely access data on an attached USB hard drive as well as giving an attached printer wireless capability, it’s easy to see why they call it “ultimate”.

Next up, for those of you who’d sooner go wireless with your hardware, check out the Netgear N600 Wireless Dual-Band ADSL Modem Router. Compatible with most DSL providers, it’ll work in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands with Gigabit Ethernet. We even have a price tag on this one at $199.99, and both of these will offer parental controls so you can keep the kids away from the smut, and a usage meter that will help you keep track of your usage, lest you get throttled by fair access policies.

We’ve also got the Netgear Genie software showing up, geared toward the home network that gives you a dashboard for “monitoring a network and troubleshooting common issues”. You’ll even be able to see what devices are on the network.

And even better, they’ve also announced Push 2TV HD, which allows you to take the screen from your laptop, but also, wirelessly, send the screen along with sound to a TV in 1080p, basically taking the place of an HDMI cable.

Some fantastic stuff being shown off at CES from Netgear, and hopefully there’ll be more about pricing and availability coming along soon.
