CES 2011 Live: LG Press Conference Features The Absence Of Key Items

LG's Tablet PC, LTE Handsets Notably Missing From LG's CES Conference

Sometimes what you don’t say is just about as loud as what you do say. And while LG brought out no less than Sue from popular Fox show Glee and the first time I’ve heard the phrase “six sigma” in a good long while, what was missing from LG’s show was almost as telling as what they brought along.

The clearest absences were the LTE handsets and the tablet PC that LG was originally set to bring along. Dr. Skott Ahn, Chief Technology Officer for LG, did make mention of the tablet, but only to say that it would be brought out “tomorrow”. Reports from the floor suggest that the crowd found this move distasteful to say the least. Meanwhile, the supposed LTE handsets also set to make an appearance went uncovered as yet, which is an especially strange move since LG just finished talking about their Optimus 2X.

The why of this move is unclear at best–maybe LG wants to build a fever pitch on their tablet? But that’s a dicey move, seeing as how lots of tablets will be coming out of this show. And why no mention of the LTE handsets? That was going to be a pretty big move for LG! Has something happened in the development cycles of these particular products? Is Ahn buying time?

It’s all part of the grand drama that is CES, so keep it right here for all the latest!
