Amazon Pre-Announces Android & Windows Tablet Kindle App
Amazon has offered up the latest in terms of their ever-dominating Kindle app. And as you can likely guess, that means support for more devices is currently in the works. Though while we do have word of two more apps, there was nothing given as to when we could expect them to arrive.

And taking another likely assumption given the current trend, these new apps will be for tablets.
“New tablet computers coming in 2011 will have access to Amazon’s free “Buy Once, Read Everywhere” apps that let readers choose from over 775,000 Kindle books and read them across the most popular devices and platforms”
Yup, while Amazon has rolled out a dedicated app for the iPad, they have yet to make the move onto other tablets. Most notably missing is probably with Android and the Galaxy Tab, though from what we have heard, the current smartphone Android app works well on the Tab. Still, as it was nice to get an iPad version in addition to the iPhone, I suppose this will come just as welcomed.
In addition to the Android tablet app, Amazon also made mention of one coming for Windows tablets.
“Like all Kindle apps, the new Kindle apps built for Android and Windows tablet computers will let customers “Buy Once, Read Everywhere”-on Kindle, Kindle 3G, Kindle DX, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry, and Android-based devices.”
Also, similar to the hardware Kindle as well as the other Kindle apps, these two new apps will allow for the user to buy books and will take advantage of the Whispersync technology which syncs the bookmarks and notes so you can stop reading on one device and pick up where you left off on another.
With that, we are left waiting and wondering just when these will arrive, but given CES is upon us and tablets are sure to be unveiled we have to think that the release announcement will come sooner rather than later.
