Samsung Galaxy S Sold in 10 Million Units in 2010
The Samsung Galaxy S is one of the best sold Android handsets of 2010 but not necessarily the best one, especially considering Samsung’s performance when it comes to upgrading it to Android 2.2 Froyo.

The Samsung Galaxy S was announced all the way back in March 2010 in the shadows of the HTC EVO 4G. HTC’s monster, created specifically for Sprint’s new 4G WiMAX network, was definitely the main Android attraction back then. But who could have known that Samsung will do an impressive marketing effort to sell the Galaxy S in as many markets as possible?
The Galaxy S was launched in summer 2010 to take on the iPhone and everyone else, but, unlike other Android manufacturers, Samsung tried, and succeeded, to launch the Galaxy S simultaneously in as many markets as possible. Also, unlike other manufacturers, the Galaxy S hit not one, not two, but five U.S. carriers, including the Big Four (we did review Sprint’s Epic 4G Galaxy S unit), and all these smart moves were meant to help Samsung reach its goal, which was selling 10 million Galaxy S units by the end of 2010.
That goal has been achieved and Samsung’s Galaxy S is one of the best-sold Android devices of last year, and clearly a powerful iPhone 4 contender. Therefore we’re definitely interested to see what the Galaxy S2 will look like especially after having witnessed the launch of the not-so-impressive Google Nexus S, which is, at the end of the day, basically a different Galaxy S version.
The only issue with the Galaxy S, besides the initial GPS issues that plagued its launch, is the lack of proper Android updates. So many Galaxy S owners are still waiting for the Froyo update to arrive, and despite Samsung’s best efforts to offer the upgrade to the crowds that hasn’t happened yet. And the crowds are getting restless after having waited for over four months for Froyo to arrive.
