Kinect-Like Device For HTPC's Coming From Asus & PrimeSense
And you thought Kinect was a horrible name for consumer electronics. Try WAVI Xtion and see how it fits. That’s the name of the Kinect-like solution Asus and the manufacturer of Kinect’s sensors, PrimeSense are bringing to the market. It’s apparently going to be more of the arm waving, but less of the gaming, as its main objective is multimedia.

It’s coming as a PC accessory (somebody tell these guys they’ve been beaten to the punch) and an “Xtion Online Store” where developers are supposed to upload programs they’ve made using the Xtion PRO platform. More details will follow during CES 2011, which is kicking off very soon and which we will be covering in Mariana Trench-like depth, including details of the SDK Asus will be making available for this thing. We’re guessing if you’re one of those people not interested in games and not keen on paying $350 to buy into the technology, this is one to keep an eye on, yes?
