CES 2011: Toshiba Intro's The Tegra 2 Powered, Honeycomb Running "Toshiba Tablet"
CES announcements are officially upon us and the first (or at least one of the first) has come by way of Toshiba. The announcement from them is both Android and Tegra 2 related, except so far the device remains unnamed.

That said, as many can assume by the processor, the device is a tablet and at present it is being referred to as the “Toshiba Tablet.” Either way though, name or no-name, this seems like it may be a nice device and one that could be a contender in the Android tablet game.
As far as features, unfortunately they are not all mentioned, but there are enough to make us pay attention. Lets begin with the display, that is 10.1 inches and is capacitive with a resolution of 1280 x 800. Moving on and we also learn that the tablet will have both a front facing and rear facing camera with the rear being 5 megapixel and the front being 2 megapixel.
Other specs include an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, GPS, Bluetooth, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, USB, mini-USB, HDMI, SD card slot and an “EasyGrip” backing which is said to be rubberized and spill resistant. The Toshiba Tablet will be running “the next version of Android designed for tablets” which we translate to mean Honeycomb.
And as far as the obvious comparison between this and the iPad, the Toshiba Tablet is going to be 1.7 pounds (slightly heavier) and measure in at 0.6 inches thick. One perk over the iPad will come into play with the battery — it is removable and said to be able to offers up to 7 hours of video playback. Of course, while the removable battery is nice, we cannot help but notice the battery life is slightly less than that of the iPad.
The device will have access to the Android Market as well as Wi-Fi for connectivity. Lastly, it was also noted that Toshiba “may eventually work with carriers to add their wireless service to the device.” With that, it is expected that the Toshiba Tablet will be available sometime in the first half of 2011.
