Duke Nukem Forever Preorder Hits Amazon, GameStop [Gearbox & 2K Games Put DNF Up For Pre-Order on Major Retailers, Do You Believe This Time?]

Gearbox shocked (shocked!) the video game world this year when they (sort of) announced Duke Nukem Forever at PAX. Not only had the Borderlands developer acquired the rights to DNF, but they’ve also been working on and it’s coming out next year! It looks like the game will come out for real this time, and likewise, Amazon and GameStop have begun taking pre-orders of the game.

I’m sure quite a few readers are aware of the guy who has the GameStop pre-order for Duke Nukem Forever back from 1999. He even has an old receipt to prove it, though I know quite a few people are skeptical if that’s real or not. Well, now you can be like him and pre-order Duke Nukem Forever from GameStop or Amazon.com Pricing is typical, $60 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, and $50 for the PC version.

The release date is set at May 31st, 2011 – a date that will live in infamy. For those keeping score at home, Duke Nukem Forever will have come out 14 years, 1 month and 3 days after it was first announced by original developer 3D Realms (April 28th, 1997).

The official Duke Nukem Forever website, operated by Gearbox and 2K Games, points to the Amazon and Gamestop pages as official points of pre-orders, so this looks legit. It’s hard to imagine DNF living up to all the delays and whatnot, but admit it – you’ll give it a try.

Comments from Gearbox president Randy Pitchford have seemingly indicated that since they own the Duke franchise, that they’ll be producing more Duke Nukem games in the future. Do you think this franchise can hold up in the time we live in today?
