Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 Launch Event Scheduled for Valentine’s Day?

The Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 is one of the most expected devices of 2011 as it will mark the end of one of the longest iPhone exclusivity deals in the world, AT&T’s, not to mention that one of the most important Android carriers in the world, Verizon, will also offer Apple’s smartphone to its subscribers.

According to a recent rumor we now know that Verizon will focus on LTE handsets at CES 2011, where we will be present to snoop around the gadgets and technologies coming in 2011, and the iPhone will not be officially introduced during Verizon’s keynote in Las Vegas.

A different report, this time coming from Bloomberg Businessweek, suggests that Apple could properly announce the Verizon iPhone 4 in a special event hosted at some point in February, hopefully in time for Valentine’s Day. Like always, the news comes from people in the know that shall remain nameless. Are we looking at a controlled leak here meant to build up expectation around the Verizon iPhone and suggest a potential release date while also stealing the momentum of the Verizon 4G LTE Android handsets rumor mill?

It will certainly be interesting to see Apple battle the upcoming 4G LTE handsets with a 3G device as Verizon’s iPhone won’t apparently have LTE support. Otherwise it would be definitely included in the CES 2011 Verizon keynote that’s going to tell us all about 4G LTE handsets at some point next week.

Considering that Apple is expected to hold an iPad 2-only event at some point in late January (after CES), just as it did this year, and knowing how Apple likes to dedicate special media events to all its flagship products, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Cupertino schedule a special press event for the CDMA iPhone 4 in February right after the iPad 2 gets official.
