NookColor Is Barnes & Noble's Top Selling Product This Holiday Season

The Android-Powered Secret-Kindle-Machine Is B&N's Best Selling Product This Year, Too

A few days ago, Amazon announced that the Kindle was their best selling product of the year. In a “me too!” move, the folks at Barnes & Noble have issue a press release dating that their NookColor was the best selling product for them during the holiday season. Numbers weren’t discussed, but B&N did announce they sell more digital books than physical one.

The NookColor is the biggest holiday bestseller too, for B&N, during the 40-year history of the company. It’s not hard to imagine, considering that if you want a Nook, you’ll probably go to Barnes & Noble, not to mention that the bookstore probably sells tons of different books over a typical holiday season, as opposed to a singular item. It’s also worth noting that the NookColor was introduced just 8 weeks before Christmas, according to this press release.

Obviously, the NookColor is getting a lot of extra attention. With it being Android-based, some modders have rooted the device, turning it into a multi-capable tablet that even can run the official Kindle Android app. That sort of makes the NookColor a “killer app” for super book readers, considering the fact that with the NookColor you’re getting an Android tablet, Kindle eReader, and NOOKbook reader.

So far, in the eBook race, Amazon’s Kindle platform has been winning. But, with this multi-purpose device, can the B&N Nook Store come back and take the lead? It’ll be interesting to watch.
