Nokia Employee Says Idea Of Nokia Making Windows Phone Devices Is "Loony"
A few weeks back, Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin (who the tech blog echo chamber seems to trust as far as rumors – my experience with him is mixed) said that Nokia may produce a ‘whole line’ of Windows Phone 7 devices. If that sounded goofy to you, it does to Nokia too. Watts Martin, a developer at Nokia said that the idea of a WP7 Nokia device was “stark raving loony”.

I think the impetuous for this rumor has been the fact that Stephen Elop, a former Microsoft executive, became CEO of Nokia a few months ago. That, along with the fact that Nokia makes great hardware but the Symbian software leaves most folks longing for more, has led to speculation that Nokia may ditch Symbian for more popular mobile software.
Martin, who notes in his blog that he doesn’t speak for Nokia officially, says that while both Symbian and MeeGo are officially open source, the company likes to have complete control over its software. I guess that pretty much rules out rumors of Android, too.
Martin (who was laid off by Nokia and will be out of a job come January) says in his post that Nokia is taking their issues seriously, mainly the fact that they (according to Martin) “[haven't] figured out user experience design” and the fact that they aren’t a serious player in the North American smartphone market. But, as Martin says, “The good news for them is that over the last year they’ve started to take all those problem seriously. The bad news is that they needed to have been taking them seriously in 2007.”
