Motorola Tablet To Be Called “Xoom”, No 4G Yet [Motorola's Tablet Will Be Called Xoom At Retail, But Won't Have 4G Yet, Says Droid Blogger]

Droid-Life blogger Kellex gets some of the best stuff out there, and now he’s reporting that the Motorola Android tablet that will be unveiled next week at CES will, in fact, be called the Motorola Xoom. No codenames here, that’s what it will be called at retail. Previously, we had seen Motorola claiming trademarks for Xoom, but it’s never clear if they were just trademark squatting or what. But, now we know. Unfortunately, the tablet won’t be 4G.

Verizon’s 4G launched late this year, and (trust us) it’ll be a major part of their CES showings next week. They’ll have at least one 4G phone there, maybe more, but, Kellex is reporting that the Motorola Xoom won’t be a 4G device, instead, relying on 3G and WiFi. A curious choice, for sure. I’m guessing that the tablet was far along in development and the decision was made to carry the device without 4G.

Some of the blogs haven’t been kind to Motorola – with the folks at Phandroid coming out and saying that they “dropped the ball” by not including 4G into the tablet. Yikes. Regardless, I think the Motorola Xoom will be a hot product for Motorola and Verizon. Remember that we saw Andy Rubin hold the device on stage at the All Things D conference awhile back. Google sure likes to tease the Android faithful by showing unannounced products on stage at events (like Eric Schmidt and the Nexus S).

Do you think the Motorola Xoom’s lack of 4G is a no-go for the Android tablet?
