Ikea iPhone App Definitely Not What You'd Expect

Ikea iPhone App Offers A Bit Of Fun, Not Much To Do With Furniture

Whatever it is that you associate with Ikea or would expect from an app bearing the famous Swedish furniture retailer’s name, you’d better put that aside. Because this isn’t it. It’s not a catalog, it’s not a furniture comparison tool, it’s not even an interior decorating app. No, what we’re dealing with here is more like a champagne/photography/ social networking/contact management app. You’ll see what we mean in a bit.

So, you fire up this app, right? And you get this champagne glass, which behaves for all intents and purposes like the majority of App Store beverage applications, with real-time sloshing and sound effects and whatnot. But suppose you have an acquaintance nearby, with a second iPhone running this same app. You can probably see where we’re going with this, yes, you can clink the glasses. And not only will they make an actual “Clink!” sound, the phones will also exchange phone numbers and profile pictures. The app’s called Skal! and has apparently been released in celebration of the New Year.
