Gigabyte Shows Off Pair of New Netbooks
It’s not hard to see how some people might think the netbook is a dead product line. When you consider a laptop will do so much more and a tablet is so much more portable than a netbook, it’s really easy to see that the laptop / tablet concepts should be eating the netbook’s lunch. But the netbook just will not say die as new ones continually emerge. A pair of new models have shown up from the folks out at Gigabyte, and they’re not looking half bad.
Both the Q2005 and the M1005 will pack dual core Atom N550 processors, which is to be expected these days and gives the products extra credibility.
But there are plenty of differences here: the Q2005 offers up a 10.1 inch display running at 1024 x 600 resolution, as well as your choice of one or two gigs of RAM, integrated graphics, your choice of three hard drives in the 250, 320, or 500 gig sizes, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a .3 megapixel webcam, your choice of a three or six cell battery, and your choice of the Windows 7 Starter edition or Windows 7 Home Premium. Some say it looks very similar to the Jolibook model, and I can see a few resemblances there, though that is more of a subjective issue than anything.
And we’ve also got the M1005, which is pretty much the same as their earlier M1022, according to reports. The key difference is that the M1005 is packing the dual-core Atom processors and some more cosmetic changes. In everything else, though, it seems to match the Q2005, but with the difference of packing only a four cell battery.
No word yet on pricing or availability–might be one of those things that gets announced at the 2011 CES show–but still, these are pretty nice netbooks from the sounds of things, and should be worth your time to consider.
