Sprint: Samsung Epic 4G Android 2.2 Upgrade Not Yet Available
It is not as if those sporting a Samsung Epic 4G have forgotten about the Android 2.2 update that was last rumored to arrive on December 26th, not to mention I am sure there are quite a few users that are fairly upset. That said, we do have to remember that the December 26th date was rumor and never officially confirmed. But then again, that does not really take the sting away, does it?

Anyway, it seems Sprint has offered an indirect update by way of the ASC News page and now it looks like the Epic 4G Android 2.2 update has been delayed. And delayed without any hint as to a new date. Of course, just like the previous rumors, this little update is also leaked. If you did not notice the above comment that it was from the ASC News page, that is an internal system for Sprint employees. In other words, this is what Sprint employees should be telling you when you call or visit a retail location asking about the update.
Needless to say, official, not official or leaked — the news is not all the great. According to the details given, the “Android software version Froyo 2.2 is still on hold.” Furthermore, it was noted that “there is no firm delivery date for the Froyo 2.2 software update, but it will be available in the near future.”
With that, we can only hope that when Sprint says in the near future they really mean in the near future, you know like within a few weeks at worst. Still, while some Android users are still on (and stuck) with Android 2.1 or worse off — a much earlier version of Android we cannot help but feel slightly bad for the Epic 4G users about now. After all, they are being teased with an update that is rumored to arrive and never does — which is coming at a time when many are beginning to think about the next best thing — Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

I got mine Epic on the first day Sprint got them.
I think we should be upgrade to the 2.3 when it come out. The way it look when epic get the 2.2
the 2.3 will be out soon after. That why I think
people with the epic will be more happy with the
2.3 then the 2.2.
Thank You
SAMSUNG: EPIC FAIL
I really feel as if I was ripped off. I wish I wouldn’t have gotten this phone. They can’t even give us a date to confirm whether or not we will even get the 2.2. Froyo update. Its not fair I spent a lot of money on this phone. I wish I had gotten the evo .
After being told the update was imminent back in the middle of December 2010, i purchased the Sprint Epic. Then waited and waited, all along being told by Sprint that: “new Epics are now shipped with 2.2″ to “you should be receiving the update over the air any day.” Finally, yesterday, I returned the phone and reactivated my Palm Pre. What a waste of time and the bogus $10/month “4G” charge while Sprint knew 2.1 was not capable of realizing the increased speed benefits 4G!
