Palm Pixi Gets Front-Facing Camera In Photoshop Blunder

Sprint Website Shows Pixi With Front-Facing Video Chat Camera? Is It A Graphic Design Mistake Or Accidental Preview Of Things To Come?

A minor story circulating the tech blogs at the moment is an image of the Palm Pixi found on Sprint’s web page. The webOS phone has what appears to be a front-facing camera where there isn’t one (although it is supposed to be close to where the phone’s proximity sensor is). Is this just a Photoshop accident or a preview of things to come next week at the show?

HP/Palm has promised publicly that they’ll be showcasing a ton of new webOS products next week at CES in Las Vegas. Some have suggested that this phone could be a “Pixi 2″ or something that would feature, among other things, a front-facing camera. I still am not convinced that it is some sort of proximity censor that was added to this picture for whatever reason.

Video calling is becoming more and more prominent in the mobile space, despite Nokia phones having it for years, Apple does it with FaceTime and suddenly people want it. A few Android devices (Samsung Galaxy Tab, HTC EVO 4G, others) have had front-facing cameras, so I would be shocked if HP/Palm wasn’t planning on offering video chat support and a front-facing camera support some point in the future.

What do you think about this picture? Photoshop mistake? Preview of a front-facing camera? Or just the proximity sensor? Tell us what you think in the comments.

It’s for sure the Proxi Sensor. I am looking at my Pixi now and they aren’t super well hidden and identical to those marks.

I can’t wait to see the new WebOS devices!

I have this phone.. It’s not photoshopped.. It’s actually on the phone.. Idk what it is, but it’s definitely not a camera unfortunately.
