Toshiba Folio 100 Gets Firmware Upgrade, Many Key Issues Addressed
Whether you call it a Christmas present to the world or just a badly needed bug fix on an epic scale, Toshiba Folio 100 users are waking up to news that their new tablet just got a serious kick in the firmware. Not all the issues that some seem to be having here are addressed, unfortunately, but a whole lot of them are, and that’s making a lot of users much happier.
The firmware upgrade, version 2.2.5.0053 according to reports, includes a whole lot of help for Toshiba Folio 100 users. Improvements have been established with the touchscreen’s responsiveness, lag times have been shorted, pinch and zoom capability has been established for web browsing and other such uses, viewability has been improved (though that one is a bit on the subjective side) and there is reportedly also improvement in the smoothness of video and audio processing.
However, Toshiba’s not quite out of the woods yet, according to some reports. There’s also no word on whether the Toshiba Folio 100 can get into Android Market (which I’d call a pretty pronounced problem–without the apps, how could this ever hope to play in the same league as the iPad?), upgrades to HoneyComb are still a bit of an issue, the Flash Player 10.1 plugin still needs to be installed separately and there are also reports about the tablet having an unusual tendency to go into a kind of sleep mode that requires full-on rebooting in order to wake the thing up.
Okay, so maybe this particular update doesn’t solve every problem the thing’s got, but it is good to see that Toshiba’s moving in the right direction and trying to get what problems it knows about fixed. Give them their due kudos, naturally, but let’s hope that, for both Toshiba’s sake and their customers’, they’re still working on getting all the bugs worked out.
