Sonic The Hedgehog Serves As Wii Remote Charger
Somewhere, Tails is likely spinning in his grave, almost as fast as he would have if he were out hunting rings with Sonic. What’s disturbing his otherwise eternal rest in the grand graveyard of (at least relative) gaming obscurity? The item pictured below, that’s what: a limited edition Wiimote inductive charger featuring none other than Sonic the Hedgehog.

Basically, you’ll be able to set your Wiimote down on a plain that looks a lot like a chunk of the Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog installments, and from there, the platform will recharge your Wiimote. You won’t even have to take off the plastic coating that keeps it from drawing blood when you accidentally hit someone with it after getting entirely too carried away playing one of those Rayman games involving the Rabbids. It comes with a set of battery packs that you put in the Wiimote instead of regular batteries, and will offer 15 hours of play time on a single charge, which is not half bad.
The platform itself is individually numbered, as it’s part of a limited edition (maybe that helps the poor folks at Sega sleep at night, knowing it’s only just a few chargers, just a little bit of a sellout, just to keep cash flowing until they make that next great game possibly in a toilet), and likely has gamers considering a gaming collectible for an investment property as well as a way to recharge their Wiimotes.
I don’t know whether this is more ironic than sad, but I know both feelings are involved. How bad is it for Sega, knowing they not only lost the console wars to arch-rival Nintendo, but now they’re selling their flagship character’s likeness on a device that’s designed to be used with their arch-rival’s most successful console ever?
You’ll be able to pick these up for $49.99 when they’re finally released.
