Skype Website Offers iPhone Video Calling How To, Complete With Verizon Logo

Well, well, well. Either this is a hint at a Verizon iPhone or Skype just has a badly placed Verizon logo along with a recent how-to set of instructions. And while that alone is enough for plenty of speculation, that how-to is titled “How do I make video calls with Skype for iPhone?”

And while the simple answer to that question (as of now) would be — you cannot. It does lead one to wonder, which is the bigger, or which is the accurate story here. Are we going to see an iPhone come available with Verizon, and are we going to be able to make video calls with the iPhone? One can only hope for both. Interestingly enough, the directions also go on to mention that you will be able to make video calls using the iPad.

In other words, this one little bit that was found on the Japanese Skype website is showing three rumors — the Verizon iPhone, a second generation iPad with at least one camera and video calling for Skype on iOS. Otherwise, the details state that you will need iOS 4.0 or later and Skype for iPhone 3.0 or above. For those keeping track of Skype for the iPhone, that app currently sits at version 2.1.2 so we are seeing what will come in the future in yet another aspect.

After reading through the how-to, there was also another bit of good news in that the video calls will be supported using 3G and/or Wi-Fi connectivity — a plus over Apple and Facetime which only works using Wi-Fi at this time. Furthermore, as far as an iPad specific version of the Skype app, MSNBC is reporting that;

“Even though the iPhone application is fully compatible with the iPad, we’re still always striving to bring the best to our Skype users, which is why we’re developing a Skype application designed specifically for the iPad. Watch the website for further updates. The Skype application will work fine with your iPad’s in-built speakers and mic, but we still recommend plugging in some headphones for best sound quality.”
