Logitech Isn’t Giving Up On Google TV [Logitech To Demo Google TV At CES Next Week, Rumors Of It's Demise Are Greatly Exaggerated]

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Google TV in the tech blog rumor mill. First, it was reported that Google was telling HDTV manufacturers not to show their Google TV products at CES 2011 next week. Then, it was reported that Logitech was freezing sales of the Logitech Revue box. But, the latter isn’t true, according to Logitech’s Ashish Arora. Nothing is wrong with the Logitech Revue and it will be at CES next week.

The first batch of Google TV products weren’t so hotly received by the media and consumers, with reactions ranging from average-to-negative and the screenshots of Android “app crash” windows coming up on the device didn’t exactly help it’s reputation. While the Google TV has been compared to the T-Mobile G1 (the first Android device, sort of an awkward phone), some have wondered if Google TV has a future with the reports of Google asking TV manufacturers to withhold their products from CES.

Regarding the possibility of Logitech recalling the Revue in order to make improvements to it, Arora writes on the blog post:

Those familiar with our product know that we don’t need to modify the Logitech Revue box to deliver software enhancements. Each of our customers will receive periodic over-the-air updates whenever Google and Logitech release changes to the Google TV platform. Logitech Revue boxes purchased at launch in October, as a holiday gift in December or to follow basketball in the spring, will all be the same and will all benefit from the same software updates.

TFTS will be live from CES next week. I expect we’ll see a lot of set-top boxes and media extenders, but I don’t believe we’ll see much from Google TV.
