Barnes & Noble NOOK Kids App Now Available For The Apple iPad [NOOK Kids App For iPad Lands In The App Store, Includes Two Free Ebooks]
It seems as if Barnes & Noble slipped another iPad app into the App Store, and this one is aimed at kids. The app is called Nook Kids and has arrived as a free ebook reader for the younger generation.

With that, the obvious catch here is that the books will need to be purchased moving forward. But on the positive side, the Nook Kids app comes with two free ebooks at the time of purchase download. The freebies include Richard Scarry’s Colors and The Elephant’s Child.
But perhaps more important than being able to read childrens book is the features of the app itself, one of which is having the app read the books aloud to your children. And speaking as a parent myself, while there is no substitute for sitting and reading with your kids, this will be beneficial in at least one location — the car. With this, you can not only save yourself from dragging 50 actual books in the car, but they can sit by themselves in the back seat and remain entertained. Plus, when they get tired of reading, there is always other options with the iPad.
But back to the task at hand, the Nook Kids app. Other features include ;
- Interact with words and pictures on every page with AliveTouch™ technology.
- Enlarge text and zoom in on pictures for an immersive reading experience.
The Nook Kids app makes for easy navigation, with the child being able to swipe their way through the books as well as the parents being able to get everything from “beloved classics” to “new favorites.”
The one bad part here, or with any digital reader for kids — the lack of ability to donate or sell these books when your child outgrows them in a few months or a year. Of course, that is not a fault with Barnes & Noble or the Nook Kids app, just an ebook issue in general.
