8mm Vintage App Turns Your iPhone Into a Classic Camera
Watching the development of the digital camera over the ages has been something of a quest for perfection. Between expanding megapixel counts and better ranges and image stabilization and face detection and the lot, it’s been all about reproducing an image as close to actually being there as possible. So imagine my surprise to watch tech-giant Apple’s cameras take a colossal step backward with the 8mm Vintage Camera app for iPhone and iPod Touches with cameras.

Basically, what the 8mm Vintage Camera app does is it converts all your incredible high-quality digital photo images into old-style photos by adding–and again I emphasize deliberately adding–flaws. The 8mm Vintage Camera app will add things like dust particles (which are addressed by many cameras’ high-end filtering gear) scratches, and even “aging” to your photos right on your iPhone by way of a set of filters. It’ll even give you a reasonably authentic user interface that really does look a lot like an older model camera.
Sure, on the surface, it sounds like lunacy–why voluntarily pay for an app that will deliberately turn your incredibly sharp and clear digital photos into old-timey wreckages?–but for people who can’t get enough of that retro style, well, this is exactly who would want something like this. Hopefully there’s enough hipsters and the like to want a copy of this app to make it worthwhile, but somehow, I really don’t think sales will be a problem on this one.
You can download this right now from iTunes for a whopping $2, and if you’re out to add that extra note of retro styling to your photos, there’s no longer a need to go hunting up a Brownie special for the occasion. Now, you can just use your iPhone with this anachronism of an app and take all the retro photos you please, in full digital format so they can be stored on hard drives later.
